especially people with allergic diseases to be implemented with the start of the Biontech vaccines in Turkey is experiencing confusion about which vaccines they choose. With the reporting of cases with severe allergic reactions to vaccines, those with allergic diseases began to be worried. So, who should get the Biontech vaccine? Are there any side effects of the Biontech vaccine, what are they? Which countries are using the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine? Here are the details ..

Germany’s Pfizer BioNTech vaccine is an mRNA-based COVID 19 vaccine. The other mRNA vaccine is the Moderna vaccine. BioNTech technology for the BNT162b2 vaccine is based on the use of nucleoside modified mRNA (modRNA) encoding part of the spike protein found on the surface of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (COVID 19). In this vaccine, part of the spike protein produced by the mRNA is formed in the body, which creates immunity in the body. This immunity protects against infection. The effectiveness rate announced by the company officials for the BioNTech vaccine was reported as 91.3%. Coronavac vaccine efficacy rate of 83%, according to data reported in Turkey. It has been reported that the vaccine is 100% effective in protecting against severe and moderate infections.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF BİONTECH VACCINE ACCORDING TO AGE?

Pfizer-Biontech COVID-19 vaccine side effects are similar to other adult vaccines. During clinical trials, side effects in order of frequency that were considered very common were:

Pain and swelling at the injection site,

-Tiredness,

-Headache,

-Muscle pains,

-Shake,

Joint pain and fever. Fever is more common after the second dose.

For the BioNTech vaccine, severe allergic reaction was observed in approximately eleven cases per million doses of vaccine. According to a report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 71% of these allergic reactions developed within 15 minutes after vaccination and mostly (81%) were reported to occur in people with a history of an allergy or allergic reaction.

The most common side effect of the vaccine is mild to moderate pain at the injection site. Side effects usually occur within 12 to 24 hours. These are often signs that the vaccine has developed immunity to the virus. Generally, elderly people experience fewer side effects. Because as the age progresses, the power of the immune system to respond to external factors weakens. It is normal to feel more exhausted than the first after the second dose of BioNTech vaccine. Because the second dose further increases the responsiveness it provides in the immune system with the first dose. The vaccine makes our body produce antibodies against coronavirus. However, because our immune system cannot distinguish the vaccine from a real infection, it releases inflammatory chemicals to protect the body. This can cause fever, muscle pain, weakness or headache.

According to the latest data of the US Food and Drug Administration, the side effects and proportional distribution of the BioNTech vaccine after the first and second doses according to age groups are as follows:

WHO SHOULD / SHOULD NOT HAVE BİONTECH VACCINE?

Experts generally believe that the vaccine should not be chosen, and whoever finds which vaccine should have it. Those who have the disease can get the vaccine they want after completing the sixth month. One dose of BioNTech and the other being Sinovac is out of the question. Sinovac is currently in Turkey in practice and not for a difference of biontech, diseases within our citizens prefer to be used by people who live in both vaccines. If you have an allergic body, you can get the Sinovac vaccine, which is an inactive vaccine that has fewer side effects in allergic bodies, instead of the mRNA vaccine. Those with obesity, kidney failure, diabetes and cancer treatment may prefer BioNTech vaccine, which is an mRNA vaccine, if available.

The Ministry of Health has also published a guide on the use of the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine, which is the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine. It was stated that the vaccine, which will be administered as a total of two doses, one dose at least four weeks apart, will not be administered in the presence of a history of anaphylaxis (allergic shock) against any substance contained in the vaccine. On the other hand, it was reported that the second dose would not be administered in the presence of anaphylaxis after the first dose of the vaccine.

The ministry also announced the situations where precautions should be taken and the vaccine should be administered. According to the guideline, an allergist / immunologist should be consulted before administering the next dose of the vaccine in the presence of a history of non-anaphylaxis acute allergic reaction to any substance contained in the vaccine or following the first dose of the vaccine.

* Both doses of the vaccine should be administered with the same pandemic vaccine.

* There is no data on the administration of mRNA vaccine (BNT162b2) during pregnancy. It can be applied to pregnant women who are at high risk of having severe COVID-19 on their own wishes. It is preferred not to be applied in the first trimester.

* There is no data on the administration of mRNA vaccine (BNT162b2) during breastfeeding. It can be applied to breastfeeding women who are at high risk of having severe COVID-19, if they wish.

* Vaccination decision is made based on the evaluation to be made by the follow-up clinician for those who have a diagnosis of neurological diseases such as uncontrolled epilepsy and Guillain-Barré Syndrome, transverse myelitis, which can be exacerbated by infection and vaccine.

• Immunosuppressed individuals should be vaccinated based on the evaluation of the follow-up clinician in order to determine the time interval in which the vaccine response can be best.

• Intramuscular injection may cause bleeding in patients with thrombocytopenia and bleeding disorders.
