Small spasms are called twitching or fasciculation. Generally, they are more common in the face and eye muscles in situations such as looking at the screen for a long time, anxiety and panic.

What Causes Muscle Spasms?

• Inadequate stretching before exercise

Although muscle spasms or cramps are harmless, in some cases they can indicate an underlying medical condition:

3.Mineral depletion: Too little potassium, calcium or magnesium in your food can lead to muscle cramps. Diuretics-diuretics found in some blood pressure lowering drugs can reduce these minerals.

Some people are more susceptible to muscle spasms than others. At risk:

Older ones
Those who are overweight
Those with thyroid disease

Treatment of Muscle Spasms

Muscle spasms usually resolve on their own. Although they stop for a few seconds to minutes, they end without treatment. Drinking water immediately may be the solution for those who are dehydrated.

If you have a painful cramp

First, stop the activity that caused the contraction – such as running.
2. Gently massage the muscle that enters the cramp.
3. Start gently stretching.
4. If he is not comfortable, try to loosen it with a hot towel or bag.
5. If there is pain after relaxation, apply cold for a short time (3-5 minutes) to reduce muscle edema.

Prof. Dr. Kaya Akan said, ‘If you have a cramp in your calf muscle, put weight on that side by folding the knee slightly. With this method, the muscle will stretch and the spasm will be resolved. If the quadriceps muscle has cramped in front of the thigh, hold your leg and try to fold it well from the back.

To prevent, it is recommended that you drink plenty of water, stretch well before sports or walking, or avoid constantly repetitive movements. It will be helpful for those with night cramps to stretch a little before going to bed.
