What is Sputum?
Sputum may or may not be purulent, may or may not contain blood. They go up in the throat after an effort to cough. Cough can be acute or chronic. Respiratory infections or inflammation increases the amount of bronchial secretion. This can cause a productive cough accompanied by secretions. Most inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract such as bronchitis or asthma are accompanied by phlegm.
They correspond to the rejection of blood from the respiratory tract (bronchi, lungs) by the mouth. We are talking about hemoptysis. When coughing too much, a blood vessel may rupture and you may cough up blood. Bloody sputum should not be confused with vomiting blood from the digestive system that occurs during vomiting efforts or sometimes with false nosebleeds.
How Is Sputum Released?
The color and composition of sputum can give clues to the pathology responsible.
However, a yellowish or greenish color is just as important a sign of inflammation as the presence of bacteria, and is not necessarily a sufficient reason to prescribe antibiotics.
Common causes of cough with sputum include:
● Lung inflammation,
To guide its diagnosis, the doctor will pay attention to the age and frequency of the problem, the appearance of sputum and the conditions in which it occurs. There may be several reasons for your bloody cough. Dilated bronchial tubes can be attributed to a lung disease such as tuberculosis or lung tumor. Your bloody cough may also be the result of cardiovascular disease (pulmonary edema).
What Are Natural Sputum Extractors?
Mucus forms a protective layer in the mouth, nose, sinuses, throat, lungs, stomach and intestines. Thus, it prevents them from being dehydrated. Mucus also creates a protective barrier against intruders. It prevents bacteria and viruses from entering your body. Mucus also contains antibodies that help your body recognize and kill intruders. So there is always mucus in your body.
Ginger has powerful therapeutic properties. For this reason, it is often used in the treatment of colds. Ginger is also effective on stubborn sputum. It reduces cough and softens the airways. Ideal if you have a sore throat or have a cold and are stuffed with phlegm. Honey really leaves a protective film on your throat. Thus, it reduces irritation and allows the affected mucous membrane to repair itself. Onion is indeed a natural antibiotic. Raw onions contain a substance that helps fight bacteria in the mouth.
What Are Expectorant Foods?
A good cup of hot herbal tea will help dilute stubborn sputum. However, heat is not the only important factor. Composition is also important. You can use mint, thyme, chamomile and echinacea herbal tea to get rid of phlegm.
When combined with evening primrose root, thyme is said to be effective in moderately reducing the duration and intensity of bronchitis symptoms. Used for decades in a medical setting, climbing ivy has been recognized by the German Commission E since 1988 for the treatment of respiratory infections and inflammations, as well as symptoms of chronic bronchitis. It is also used in sputum removal.
The use of essential oils is not without risk, even when it comes to herbs. Aromatherapy should be the subject of special precautions for children and pregnant women as well as for every frail individual. Before starting treatment, be sure to get advice from your pharmacist and always refer to the contraindications stated on the bottle.
Against oily cough, Niaouli essential oil also offers effective expectorant properties. Beyond cleansing the bronchi, this herb helps boost your immune system. In the case of an oily cough, the essential oil of true lavender is an excellent anti-fatigue ally and an effective relaxant. Unwanted cough spasms tire the body at the muscle level and can disrupt your sleep. In this context, lavender helps to gain energy.
