What Causes Diarrhea?
Many foods and beverages can cause digestive upset and diarrhea. Apart from this, both environmental and genetic factors can cause short or long term diarrhea.
1- Food allergies:
The immune system can perceive some foods as a threat and activate its defense mechanism. Allergic reactions occur in the face of this sudden resistance of the body, and both digestive and circulatory systems begin to fail to fulfill their former functions.
Redness, irritation and the need for constant itching are among the early symptoms. Liquid defecation and abdominal pain are seen in about 60% of people diagnosed with food allergies.
2- Use of antibiotics:
Antibiotics cause disruption of the digestive system, especially in people with a weak immune system and low body resistance. Among the side effects of some medications, nausea, vomiting and weakness are seen. Patients with these symptoms should stop taking antibiotics and be treated immediately.
3- Other factors that cause diarrhea:
Lactose allergy causes irregular bowel movements and diarrhea. Incomplete digestion of milk due to lactose intolerance causes an increase in acid in the stomach and gas. As a result, the patient needs to go to the toilet frequently.
What Are Foods and Drinks That Cause Rapid Diarrhea?
Foods That Cause Diarrhea:
1- Excessively spicy foods:
People who add excessive amounts of cumin, mint and chili peppers to their meals have 3 times more risk of diarrhea than others. This is because such spicy spices upset the acid balance of the stomach. If the acid level is much higher than it should be, it cannot fulfill its functions. This causes diarrhea symptoms to appear.
2- French fries and other fatty foods:
French fries cooked with sunflower or riviera oil can cause digestive system disorders in both children and adults. It is recommended that people with such symptoms should consume their food with olive oil.
Apart from this, fast-food type foods are also unhealthy because they are cooked with frozen fat. Many fast-food foods, especially hamburgers, cause contraction of the muscles in the stomach and excessive defecation.
Although legumes are beneficial foods for the body, as with any food, excessive consumption of legumes can cause various health problems. Particular attention should be paid to consuming dry beans, chickpeas and kidney beans at most once a week.
Too much citrus fruits such as tangerines, oranges, and grapefruit right after a meal can cause bowel pain and indigestion.
Drinks That Cause Diarrhea:
Drinking a few sips of milk is good for stomach pain and indigestion. However, consuming too much milk can lead to both lactose intolerance and diarrhea. For this reason, it should be avoided to consume cold milk, especially in summer, and care should be taken to consume milk that does not contain lactose.
2- Harmful Habits:
Apart from the stomach, alcohol also damages the small and large intestines. The intestines whose flora is impaired cannot perform their functions as before and as a result, they lose their water absorption feature. Smoking causes stomach diseases such as gastritis and ulcers. People with gastritis and ulcers have a much higher risk of developing diarrhea.
