220 fathers, aged between 26 and 58, who have been married for about 9.5 years, were asked what they thought about playing with their children during the pandemic. While 61.4 percent of fathers stated that they spend more time playing games with children, playtimes were cheerful, happy and very entertaining according to 66.4 percent. Lecturer Hale Kahyaoğlu Çakmakcı, one of the researchers who conducted the study, said, “Thanks to the game, fathers said that their relationship became stronger, a better relationship emerged, and a warmer dialogue took place with their children than before. This can show us that this year is the year of fathers. We know that parents and children have gone through a very difficult pandemic period, and some of the fathers stayed at home during this process. Playing games with children also helped fathers cope with stress and anxiety.”

IT HAS BEEN EFFECTIVE TO COPE WITH STRESS

Sharing the details of the research, Çakmakcı said, “Fathers realized how important their children’s playing, the place of play in the child’s life, is important in coping with problems such as stress and anxiety.”

TURKISH FATHERS UNDERSTAND THE SOUL OF CHILDREN

Stating that fathers do not interfere with children’s game selection, Çakmakcı said, “Dads did not direct the game while playing with their children. It is left to the child’s choice. “They said, ‘You can play as you want, you can choose the toy you want, I will accompany you,'” he said.

Stating that Turkish fathers understand the spirit of children, Çakmakcı said, “Fathers are happy to play with their children. Children are also very happy with this situation. “According to a study conducted in England, children do not feel like they are playing when they play with their parents. “It shows how much you value it. All of our fathers enjoy playing games.”

MOST BOX GAMES PLAYED

Çakmakcı said that 65 percent of fathers prefer to play with their children with game materials such as board games, lego, animals and cars.

FATHERS ARE DISCHARGED WITH THE GAME

Çakmakcı stated that fathers reflect their inner worlds to the game just like children, and continued:

“We have seen that fathers are also discharged with the game. We have seen that fathers reflect their inner world to the game by using materials and materials in the same way as children. This is important for all ages, not just children. We have seen once again how precious toys are for fathers.”

YOU NEED TO PLAY AT LEAST HALF HOURS

Stating that 77 percent of fathers are aware that they need to take time to play with their children, Çakmakcı said, “Our fathers should not take time only during the pandemic and closure period. In the following periods, I recommend that they do not quit the game, considering that it also relaxes them. We can say that if each family sits down for half an hour a day and plays together, this will relax all family members, and even more so in the future.”
