Dr. Instructor Member Fatma Aytaç Bal stated that the symmetry, order and harmony in the color, shape, size, position and arrangement of the teeth, a smile with ideal features and an aesthetic appearance affect the success in business and social relations by making the person feel confident and happy.

Referring to the applications made in dental aesthetics, Bal focuses on correcting the asymmetry, disorder or imbalance in the elements exemplified as color, shape, size, position and arrangement, bringing the smile to ideal standards and improving the general appearance. These applications can be performed with minimally invasive procedures that fit perfectly with the natural tooth in the presence of simple problems, as well as more complex procedures in the presence of a more severely damaged tooth. It may even sometimes involve interdisciplinary planning. One of the most common treatments is restorative applications placed in the front of the teeth to correct defects in the size, shape and color of the teeth.

Bal said that another highly effective way of aesthetically improving discolored teeth is the whitening treatment:

“In addition, a wide range of treatments such as crowns used to restore the shape, function and color of severely damaged teeth, implants placed in the jawbone to restore missing or damaged teeth by acting as natural roots, orthodontic applications to correct crooked teeth and close gaps. options can also be offered to our patients.”

Pointing out that aesthetic applications can also include digital smile design in order to plan the necessary treatment to improve the smile and increase patient motivation, Bal said, “Smile design is personalized considering the shape of the teeth, the edges of the gums, lips and the shape of the face, and then the targeted design. Includes all applications. The entire treatment of the patient is planned with millimetric precision and in the most ideal form. To obtain results that look both aesthetic and natural, teeth, gums and lips all need to be analyzed together. Although the position, size, ratio, shape, color and symmetry of the teeth represent aesthetic elements, the relationship of the teeth with the gingival tissues and bone must also be evaluated and the treatment planning should be done accordingly.

Bal also stated that while performing dental aesthetic applications, aesthetic concepts that harmonize teeth and facial aesthetics should be integrated, “All components of the teeth and face should be considered as a whole and a correct harmony of the mouth with other elements that make up the face should be ensured. For this reason, while planning aesthetic applications, factors such as the analysis of the lips, their position, the relationship between the teeth and the shape and height of the face should be included.

Bal said the following about the treatments in dental aesthetics:

“With the treatments performed, it is aimed to achieve natural and healthy-looking as well as functional results with teeth designed according to individual aesthetic elements. Treatment plans should comply with natural features, include up-to-date scientific techniques and be based on practices that can be combined with the artistic skills of the physician. With the positive psychological effects that the right practices will create on people, the quality of life can be easily increased.”
