Chest Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. Ali Metin Görgüner stated that Endobronsial Ultrasonography (EBUS), which facilitates early diagnosis of lung cancer, which is the first type of cancer that causes death in men, is a method that can be applied in chest diseases without the need for invasive surgery. Prof. Dr. Görgüner underlined that this method can be easily applied in patients who have had Kovid-19 infection and recovered after the PCR test turned negative.

SURGERY IS NOT NECESSARY

Stating that EBUS can be applied without the need for advanced surgical intervention, Chest Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. Görgüner, “EBUS, with its special needle, especially with the normal bronchoscopy method in the chest cavity, enables the enlarged lymph nodes in the inaccessible areas or lesions adjacent to the central airways to be entered. This method can be used successfully especially in the diagnosis of enlarged lymph nodes in the chest cavity, in the diagnosis and staging of tumors that cannot be reached by conventional methods, in the diagnosis of diseases such as sarcoidosis, lymphoma, and tuberculosis, and in the detection of clots at the level of large lung vessels.

THE PATIENT MAY BE DISCHARGED THE SAME DAY

Underlining that the technique can be used in suitable patients, Prof. Dr. Görgüner said, “In this method, moderate sedation is sufficient under operating room conditions without the need for general anesthesia. It is applied in a short time, the patient is discharged on the same day. When necessary and optionally, the procedure can be performed in the presence of an anesthesiologist so that the patient almost feels nothing. Although the duration of the procedure may vary according to the patient, it takes an average of 15 – 30 minutes. During the procedure, all your vital functions such as blood pressure, pulse, electrocardiography, oxygen saturation can be monitored on a monitor and instantly intervened. EBUS is applied as an extremely reliable diagnostic method. Rarely, mild side effects such as agitation, cough and bleeding at the injection site can be seen during the procedure. “Considering the diagnostic value of the procedure, it is considered to be one of the lowest-risk non-surgical methods that can be performed.”
