Medicana Avcılar Hospital Nutrition and Diet Specialist Havva Kılınç, who stated that especially cardiovascular, diabetes, hypertension and kidney patients are at risk during Eid al-Adha, when meat and sweet consumption increases, gave information about nutrition during the feast.

Stating that even healthy individuals may encounter health problems such as digestive problems, bloating, pain, constipation, heart palpitations and high blood pressure if they are not fed carefully, Nutrition and Diet Specialist Havva Kılınç said, “First of all, the hardness of the meat of newly slaughtered animals creates difficulties in both cooking and digestion. It causes problems such as bloating and indigestion in the stomach. Meat should be consumed after 24 hours of resting.

Stating that meat should not be in the form of large pieces, but into small pieces such as minced meat and cubes, divided into single-cooking quantities, put in refrigerator bags, and stored in the freezer part of the refrigerators or in the deep freezer, Havva Kılınç said, “In the refrigerator, it is at minus 2 degrees Celsius for 1-2 weeks, and in the freezer at -18 degrees Celsius Meat can be stored longer.

There are fats that we cannot see between the tissues of the meat, so all visible fat must be removed. Everyone, especially those with heart disease, should avoid common mistakes such as adding lard or lard while cooking, and meat should be cooked in its own juice by one of the methods of roasting, boiling or grilling over low heat without adding any extra oil. To give up on Eid al-Adha, cooking should be done in its own juice, on low heat, without adding butter or lard / tallow to the roast. Carcinogenic substances increase in barbecued or fried meat, which poses a risk for individuals of all age groups.

Noting that offal is very rich in cholesterol and saturated fat, Dyt. Havva Kılınç made the following warnings about consumption:

“Especially cholesterol and heart patients should not consume it. Meat is a very difficult food to digest, consuming too much can cause problems such as indigestion, stomach pain, constipation. Therefore, it will be a healthier choice for you to consume meat at lunch and have a lighter evening meal. In addition to meat, choosing foods with high fiber content such as vegetables, whole grain bread, probiotic yoghurt that will help your digestive system work will both provide nutritional diversity and help you avoid these problems.

Red meat; In addition to good quality animal protein, it contains iron, zinc, phosphorus, magnesium minerals and vitamins B12, B6, B1 and A. Since it does not contain vitamin C, it will be more beneficial to consume it with foods with high vitamin C content such as vegetables and salad, as it also increases iron absorption. It will be a healthier choice to prefer milk or fruit desserts instead of syrup-paste desserts that contain high amounts of fat and sugar, especially baklava. Drinking water is the most important thing you need to do to stimulate a regular digestive system and metabolism. Be sure to drink a minimum of 2-2.5 liters (10-12 glasses) of water, especially during the feast, which coincides with hot summer days.”
