Noting that if the person has optimism, self-esteem, forgiveness, gratitude and awareness, Assoc. Dr. Tayfun Doğan said, “According to a study we conducted on this subject, it was understood that people who had a happy childhood had stronger psychological resilience.

Assoc. Dr. Tayfun Doğan attended the seminar on ‘Positive Psychology and Psychological Resilience’ organized by the Pendik Guidance and Research Center.

“The criterion of psychological resilience is how long you recover after events such as illness and traumas,” Assoc. Dr. Tayfun Doğan compared people with high psychological resilience to ‘hacıyatmassa’. While Canan Ekmekçioğlu was the moderator of the online seminar, Doğan, who entered by defining positive psychology and psychological resilience, explained that positive psychology is a new approach. Doğan said, “Positive psychology is a trend that started with the initiatives of Martin Seligman in 1998. “Positive psychology is an approach that focuses more on people’s positive traits and strengths.”

Positive psychology was born out of need

Stating that traditional psychology does not provide information about what to do to make life meaningful, Assoc. Dr. Tayfun Doğan stated that the positive psychology approach was born from a need and said:

“Interest in positive psychology is quite high in our country. People no longer want to listen to illness. People want to hear good things and think about how I can improve my life. According to the World Health Organization, the disease is defined as a state of complete well-being not only physically but also mentally and socially. Mental health is defined as being aware of one’s own abilities, being able to overcome stress, being productive in business life and being useful for their own abilities. According to Freud, a person who loves and works is a mentally healthy person. ”

Individuals with high psychological resilience overcome difficulties more easily

Defining psychological resilience as “the power to gather”, Assoc. Dr. Tayfun Doğan said, “The criterion of psychological resilience is how long you recover after events such as illness and trauma. I compare people with a high level of psychological resilience to ‘hacıyatmala’, they may fall, but they will recover immediately. Everyone suffers from the pain of life, some of them can easily recover while some of them fall apart. If the person has optimism, self-esteem, forgiveness, gratitude and awareness, the psychological resilience of the person becomes high. According to a study we conducted on this subject, it was understood that people who had a happy childhood had stronger psychological resilience ”.

Optimists live longer

Touching on the importance of happiness in increasing psychological resilience, Assoc. Dr. Tayfun Doğan said, “Optimism is not Polyannism as most people think. Unrealistic optimism is an inconvenient situation. When a person is ill, he / she ignores his optimistic point of view and neglects his health with the thought of passing. According to research, optimists live longer. Another way to increase psychological resilience is to establish interpersonal relationships. Happiness is relational, people can be a source of happiness and unhappiness for each other. Social support is very important in terms of psychological resilience. The person feels important and copes more easily with adverse conditions ”.

Good people always win

Stating that doing kindness is beneficial not only to the other party but also to the person, Assoc. Dr. Tayfun Doğan said, “People with a nurturing relationship style are open, sincere, respectful and loving. People with a toxic relationship style are arrogant, condescending, critical and humiliating. According to a study we conducted, the psychological resilience of people with toxic relationships was low. So the good always win. We must learn to be happy with our current situation. “If life gives you lemons, make lemonade, don’t worry about why I can’t make Alexander.”
