How Is It Treated?
There are several medications that are good for the pain and swelling caused by gout. If there is a medicine that you have tried before and found to be good, it is always useful to have it on hand, so you can take it as soon as you feel a flare-up. The sooner you start having symptoms, the sooner the effect starts. The most commonly used drugs in gout attack are non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, colchicine and steroids. There are also drug treatments that prevent future gout attacks. It is especially recommended for patients with frequent and severe attacks. These drug groups generally work by reducing the level of uric acid in the blood. However, if you start the treatment of the disease with these drugs, you may cause aggravation of the gout attack. For this reason, the dose should be adjusted by your doctor by closely monitoring your blood tests and examination, and then the maintenance dose should be adjusted to prevent attacks.

WHAT IS GUT?
Gout is caused by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood, or less excretion by the kidneys, or by taking in excess amounts of purines, which turn into uric acid in the body, with certain foods. FOODS THAT SHOULD NOT BE EATED;

• Alcoholic beverages
• Caviar, mussels, squid, lobster, anchovies, sardines

• Consumption of foods rich in purine should be reduced. For example; Purine-containing foods such as meat, fish, poultry are not eaten in acute attacks. These nutrients can be given in small amounts (60 g/day) after the acute attacks have passed. Milk, cheese, eggs are the best sources of protein in a purine-restricted diet.
• Fat intake should be reduced, as fat reduces uric acid excretion from the kidneys.
• Attention should be paid to weight gain. Overweight individuals should lose weight. Being overweight increases the risk of developing gout, while giving up reduces the risk of gout. Losing weight also reduces overall stress on the joints.
• Body circulation should be kept alive by drinking plenty of water.
• Alcohol should not be consumed. Alcohol triggers gout attacks and causes uric acid buildup.
In addition to nutrition, adequate exercise should help the treatment of the disease.
