Stating that there is anxiety at the basis, various physical symptoms such as panic attacks, vomiting and chills are seen and that people with agoraphobia known as ‘fear of space’ are inevitable, Dr. Lecturer Stating that agoraphobia can also be seen in open spaces, his member Hüseyin Ebadi stated that early treatment is important.
“IT IS DEVELOPING WITH THE THOUGHT IT IS HARD TO ESCAPE”
Dr. Ebadi said, “In ancient Greek, it is known as ‘fear of space’ and is defined as anxiety that develops with the thought that it is difficult to escape or get help if physical symptoms that will put a person in difficulty, and avoiding entering certain situations and areas,” he said.
“IT IS A FORM OF WARNING”
Stating that there is a constant state of anxiety and fear for situations encountered in daily life, Dr. “Stress-centered anxiety is a form of stimulation in the context of all possible dangers in the future with the reaction of the brain to stress, while preparing the environment for dealing with the problems encountered in the maintenance of daily life and therefore making quick decisions in the face of possible situations,” said Ebadi.
” MAY ALSO BE OPEN ”
Pointing out that agoraphobia can also occur in open spaces, Ebadi said, “While the negative effect of constant and ongoing anxiety on the mental health of the person is inevitable, the efficiency of his daily work may decrease and therefore, despite the wide variety of anxiety disorder, this disease, which is anxiety and anxiety-centered, is the negativities experienced in childhood, As the traumas and unhappiness increase, the risk of anxiety that the individual may experience in the future increases simultaneously. In this context, the presence of anxiety problem is inevitable in individuals with agoraphobia. However, agoraphobia, known as fear of space, is not against any situation, ”he said, adding that the problem is exactly a type of phobia for a space, a place or a place.
Dr. Ebadi continued his words as follows:
“Therefore, individuals with agoraphobia can use public transportation (ferries, buses, planes, trains, etc.), be in open areas (parks, crossing bridges, etc.), be in closed areas or in commercial-public areas (shopping centers, hospitals, cinemas, and so on. theater halls etc.), places where there is a high density of people (places where there is a lot of people, streets, concerts, etc.), using elevators or waiting in line / queue in various open-closed areas.
” THE VIOLENCE OF FEAR AFFECTS THE QUALITY OF LIFE ”
Underlining that the severity of the disease varies gradually and unfortunately it directly affects the quality of life of the person, Dr. Ebadi stated that since the severity of fear in agoraphobia determines the degree of their avoidance, as the severity of fear increases, avoidance behavior becomes more pronounced and a restricted lifestyle has emerged.
Stating that agoraphobia affects the daily life of the individual negatively, Dr. Ebadi said, “While it is possible for an individual with mild to moderate agoraphobia to maintain his / her daily life, to use public transportation or to do his / her shopping; Avoidance behavior, which becomes evident on the basis of fear and anxiety, which depends on the severity of the disease, negatively affects the comfort of life of the person. For example, even if there are open spaces, they cannot interfere with the public or the crowd and they confine themselves to their home, safe place or area, and they often need the presence of someone when they have to go outside of the environments where they feel safe, ”he said.
“ THE MAIN PROBLEM: CONCERN LOSS OF CONTROL ”
Underlining that there may be different situations that trigger or feed agoraphobia, Ebadi said, “Agoraphobia may occur as a result of the loss of a relative, inability to cope with various emotions such as pain, sadness or regret caused by the loss. Since the main problem here is anxiety with the thought of losing control, this discomfort may arise in areas where he thinks he is not in control. However, each individual’s reactions to events are different, ”he said, adding that this situation is also related to personality traits, environment and upbringing.
” TREATMENT PROCESS SHOULD NOT BE DELAYED ”
Dr. Ebadi emphasized that it is very important for the individual to comprehend and determine the area in which he / she is afraid and anxious for more than six months, “It is very important to expose himself to this area gradually, especially during the treatment period. However, it is also very important to take psychiatric and psychological support and to benefit from various therapy methods in order to prevent the increase in the severity of the disease in cases that cannot be coped with ”.
