Stating that eyelid aesthetic surgery (blepharoplasty) is a procedure performed by removing more skin and adipose tissue from the lower and upper eyelids, and tightening the parts around the eyes that support these tissues, Eye Diseases Specialist Dr. Instructor Member Mustafa Apa gave important information. Kiss. Dr. Apa said, “Aesthetic eyelid surgery is the surgical applications that are generally needed after the age of 35, and the surgical risks are low and the results of aesthetic surgery are striking. It can also be applied at a younger age in people who have disturbing bags on the eyelids at a younger age due to hereditary reasons. Low eyelids can negatively affect your vision and make you look older than your age. With this surgical application, sagging upper and lower eyelids, bags due to excess fat collection and wrinkles around the eyes are corrected, and the old, tired appearance of the person is transformed into a younger and more dynamic appearance.

FAT TISSUE WORKS TO PROTECT

Providing information about the process of the surgery, Op. Dr. Mustafa Apa, “Blepharoplasty usually takes 1-2 hours. After anesthesia, incisions are made over the natural lines on the upper eyelids and just below the eyelashes on the lower eyelid. By entering through these incisions, the skin is separated from the underlying fat and muscle tissue. Herniated fat tissue is corrected, excess muscle and skin tissue is removed. Previously, adipose tissue removal was performed in almost every operation. However, since it is accepted that the shrinkage of the adipose tissue increases the eye socket and gives an older appearance to the person with advancing age, it is aimed to preserve the adipose tissue as much as possible in modern surgery. Then the incisions are closed with very thin ridges. If there are fat-muscle bags on the lower eyelids without excess skin, an incision is made inside the eyelid without leaving a visible score. It is generally applied in young patients with more elastic skin.

IT MAY BE REQUIRED TO STAY AWAY FROM SOME ACTIVITIES AFTER THE SURGERY

Stating that edema (swelling) and redness may occur around the eye after aesthetic eyelid surgery, Dr. Apa underlined the following points for the postoperative recovery process:

“On the 2nd and 3rd days, these swellings will be replaced by bruises, and when your stitches and bands around your eyes are removed in your follow-up one week later, the bruises will completely disappear and you will have an almost normal appearance. After the surgery, your doctor will prescribe you drugs such as antibiotics, painkillers, edema reducers along with eye drops. In the first week after cosmetic eyelid surgery, you should avoid activities such as reading books, using a computer, or watching television that may cause dry eyes. By the end of the first week, you will feel well enough to do your normal activities, but you should avoid heavy exercise and activities for four weeks.”
